 FAQ

WHAT IS CONSIDERED ONE OUTFIT?

You come in the outfit you want to be photographed in. Cap and gown is not considered an outfit, it's a prop.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK?

It’s better to book your session as early as you can before graduation. Campus gets super busy closer to graduation because so many students are taking pictures. Sometimes lines form for certain locations. The best time of day to start your session is two hours before sunset. My favorite light is the hour before sunset called “golden hour.”

LOCATION IDEAS?

Pick places you love! Maybe it’s a place you spent a lot of time in college. Aggie grads I have a blog post that is very helpful, check it out HERE.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Please arrive on time to your session, if not a few minutes early. As a natural light photographer, your session is scheduled around the time that the sun sets. Once the sun is set, we can no longer shoot. Therefore, if you arrive to your session even 10-15 minutes late, it will affect the amount of time that we can shoot and the length of your session!

DO YOU HAVE A CAP AND GOWN?

YES. I have a cap and gown for Aggie Bachelor graduates (only in a few sizes). I also have the maroon stole. I do not have a masters or PhD cap and gown. Let me know if I need me to bring the cap and gown. TIP—Aggies it's best to buy from the TX AG store on Northgate if you want yours sooner rather than later. The Barnes and Nobles on campus usually doesn't give them out until closer to graduation.

SHOULD I BRING PROPS?

The only props you really need is your cap and gown, but if you have anything else you want— bring it!! I do not allow confetti, but you can get creative with flower petals or anything else natural. I am so sorry but I don’t want to litter. Champagne may only be popped in the grass. It leaves a stain with sticky residue on concrete. Texas A&M isn't allowing champagne in the fountain anymore. Just trying to protect this beautiful earth God created!

DO YOU PROVIDE THE CHAMPAGNE TO POP?

I do not, but please feel free to bring some! You can buy the cheap kind from HEB. Bringing two bottles is always recommended. Just in case.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?

You receive your high resolution images in an online gallery where you can download, print and share your images.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY GALLERY?

You will receive your full gallery within 5-7 business days.

WHAT IF BAD WEATHER OCCURS?

If bad weather occurs on the day of your session, we will reschedule to a date that is best for the both of us. If we do not find a date that works you will be refunded all monies paid. I do my best to let you know a day in advance, but sometimes we have to wait until the morning of your session to make the call. You never know with the weather.

DO I NEED TO BRING POSING IDEAS?

Nope. I got you covered-- but if there is some poses you really want to do just tell me! I LOVE candid shots.

CAN I ORDER PRINTS?

YES. You can order prints through your gallery or wherever you may choose. I highly recommend the gallery because it comes from a professional print lab.

Makeup, Hair + Lashes

Additionally, if it’s in your budget I recommend all of my clients to invest in professional hair and makeup. Hiring a professional will make a drastic difference in the quality of your photos and portrait experience. You are already making a large investment in your portrait experience, so why not make it the best it can be?! So exactly why is it so important?

1. THEY ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS

When you are investing in a professional photographer, you want to make sure the images look their absolute best. Professional hair + makeup + lash artist are TRAINED to do hair + makeup + lashes so that they photograph well. They will conceal spots you don’t like, contour your face so it looks the best in every light, use colors that compliment your skin to make it look flawless, make your eyes POP with lashes + shadows, manicure your eyebrows to perfection and more!

2. LESS STRESS

Preparing for a portrait session is stressful in and of itself. Trying to do your hair + makeup by yourself can make things even harder.

3. WHO DOESN’T LIKE BEING PAMPERED?!

I don’t ever want my clients to feel like their portrait session is just simply “taking pictures”, I want it to be an EXPERIENCE. So, if my clients arrive after an hour of being pampered + beautified, the entire experience has already started on a good note! If a client arrives frustrated or stressed, it can affect the entire experience, including the way you look in photographs!

Although, if it’s not in your budget and you aren’t a big fan of makeup— you can do it yourself or have a friend help you! I know I am a minimal makeup wearier. I will most likely show up with no makeup on because that’s how I go about my everyday life. I want you to feel comfortable and be you. If you love getting glam, get glam. If you love to be natural, be natural! Do what you love and what makes you feel confident. You are beautiful with or without makeup.

I highly recommend for MAKEUP & HAIR (in College Station):
Naturally Flawless @naturallyflawless
Glow + Grace Artistry @glowandgraceartistry
CC-LaRue Beauty @cierras.makeup

And, one last tip!! In all the chaos of portrait session prep... DON’T FORGET TO PAMPER YOUR NAILS! During your shoot, a lot of the poses we do will have your hands close to your face and in the frame, so make sure that your nails look just how you want! Try to avoid any chipped polish or crazy patterns. French manicures, light/natural colors and even nails with no color at all photograph best!

Outfit Tips

Stuck on what to wear? I’m here to help! Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks to help you guide your outfit choices! Choosing what you wear for your photo shoot is a huge decision that can make or break your portrait session! I know that sounds dramatic... but, if you accidentally wear something that isn’t flattering on camera or something that you don’t feel comfortable in... it can ruin the experience for you! So, here are some of the best ways to choose what to wear.

1. BE COMFORTABLE

If you do not like fitted clothing (super tight dresses or pieces that fit awkwardly) then leave them at home! Personally, I try to steer clear of items that are fitted in my tummy area (don’t we all?) just because it makes me self-conscious and I’m constantly wondering if it looks bad. So, if there are pieces in your closet that make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable, don’t include them in your portrait session wardrobe!

2. BE BRIGHT + THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

I love white & black! But try to think outside the box. Try to choose colors that POP and that compliment your hair + skin colors! Primary colors like red, royal blue and yellow photograph beautifully as well as emerald green, bright purples, pinks, oranges and any other colors that really POP! Sometimes, color combos that may seem odd in person end up photographing BEAUTIFULLY on camera!

3. ADD LAYERS

In the cold months, adding layers to your outfits always looks STUNNING in portraits! Scarfs + jackets are also a great choice, they add so much dimension to your images and makes for super fun posing options! Even in warmer months, you can add these layers + dimension by wearing a tank top with a cute sheer kimono or by throwing a denim vest over a dress!

4. PLAY WITH TEXTURES

Sometimes textures like sequins, furs and sparkles can be considered “daring” or “over the top” but, in portraits, they are the BEST! Adding texture to your outfit makes the biggest difference, and it prevents the images from looking dull! Combining textures that you may not normally use together like sequins + cable knit sweaters or leather + fur make great pairs!

5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ACCESSORIZE

During a session, or any photo shoot, the more the merrier! When planning your outfits don’t forget to plan accessories!! Stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, hats, bright shoes and other add-ons can make or break an outfit!

6. MIX IT UP

When planning your outfits make sure that you have a VARIETY of looks! I tell all of my clients to choose from these categories: casual, cozy, dressy, school-related, sportsrelated, preppy or edgy. I always recommend 2-3 of those categories and finding outfits accordingly. This provides a beautiful array of looks during your portrait session, so each outfit looks dramatically different!
